Manly Juniors

The class invented at Manly in 1958. A safe, stable two-handed dinghy for kids aged 8 to 13 — the start of the pathway.

The Manly Junior, or MJ, was designed at this club in 1958 by Ron Sterne. Decades on, it’s still one of the most loved learn-to-race classes in Australia.

Sailed by a crew of two with a simple cat rig and small spinnaker, the MJ is ideal for siblings, parent-and-child crews, or a pair of friends working out how to win their first race. Boats are inexpensive to buy and easy to maintain.
